*IMPORTANT MESSAGE*

Lure Chasing is Temporarily Closed

Unfortunately, the property we have used for the past 3 years has been sold. We have been asked to leave so they can use the land for other purposes. Sadly we will not be open for the time being as we continue to search for a new location. Please continue to check this website as we will try to post updates to our situation should something change. Hopefully this closure is just temporary.

We appreciate all of our great customers, and wonderful dogs, we have gotten to know over the years.

Thank you,

Warren and Michele

*Course Condition Issues*

During the hot and dry summer months, runs will not last as long as during other times of the year. We also do not recommend dogs running more than 1 time per day. For faster dogs, it may not even be a good idea to even attempt lure chasing.

There are 2 reasons for this.

1st is the heat. Dogs don’t sweat and cool themselves the same way humans do. Running at full speed causes dogs to heat up a lot more than when going for a walk.

2nd is the hot sun dries out and hardens the Colorado clay soil, causing it to become extremely hard, even under a layer of grass. Unfortunately we are not able to water the field to keep the ground from drying out, and must wait for rain. This hard ground can cause faster dogs to generate enough friction to damage paw pads in a very short amount of time and distance. Even 1 run under these conditions can even have a damaging effect to the feet of dogs.  Please take this concern into consideration if you are considering lure chasing during this time of the year. For this reason, the faster the dog, the shorter distance we will likley have it run so we can do our best to avoid any injuries.

We need to think about the safety of the dogs above all else. As your dog’s owner, we hope you understand. It is easy to think dogs wants to chase more than the conditions might allow for, but that isn’t always the correct decision for owners to make for their beloved pets during this time of year.

Once the moisture content in the ground returns, and softens the ground surface, and the temperatures become lower, we can resume our normal running practices.  We do not want to cause any harm to your beloved pets, and we will do our best to help you avoid potential problems, but the ultimate decision to have your dog lure chase is up to you, as is the responsibility for all potential injury risks to your dog.

For more concerns and questions, please see our FAQ page, or email us through our Contact Us page.

During the winter months, if there is too much mud or snow on the field, we will edit the calendar and be closed as this could cause dogs to slip and potentially injure themselves.
